Everything you need to know about Effective Ownership, price strategy, captain selection, and climbing the Saudi Fantasy rankings
Effective Ownership is the single most important metric for understanding how any individual player affects your rank in SPL Fantasy Football. It goes beyond simple ownership percentage by accounting for captain choices — because a captained player scores double points.
If a player is owned by 35% of SPL Fantasy managers and captained by 20%, his Effective Ownership is 55%. This means that every point he scores costs you 0.55 rank positions per 1,000 managers if you don't own him — or gains you rank if you do.
| Label | EO Range | Meaning | Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| GHOST | ≥ 75% | Almost everyone owns and captains this player | Must own — not having him is a huge rank risk |
| TEMPLATE | 40–75% | Widely owned, safe "template" pick | Consider owning to protect your rank |
| DIFF | 20–40% | Differential — meaningful both ways | Scores big = rank gain, blanks = moderate loss |
| RARE | < 20% | True differential, low ownership | High risk/reward — can move 100k+ places |
A player owned by 50% who nobody captains only has 50% EO — his rank impact is moderate. But a player owned by 30% who is captained by 25% has 55% EO — he has more rank impact than the more widely owned player. This is why EO, not raw ownership, is the number you should track before every gameweek in SPL Fantasy.
Player prices in Saudi Pro League Fantasy Football change based on net transfer activity. When more managers transfer a player in than out, his price rises by 0.1m. When more managers transfer him out, his price falls by 0.1m.
A player needs a certain number of net transfers in to trigger a price rise. This threshold varies based on the total number of active managers. A player with 600+ net transfers in is almost certain to rise. Below 300 net transfers, a rise is unlikely. SPL Fantasy Hub tracks this progress in real time on the Prices tab.
Prices typically update overnight, once per day during the gameweek. SPL Fantasy Hub shows confirmed price changes with the exact time they were first detected, so you know which changes happened today versus earlier in the week.
Your captain scores double points every gameweek. Choosing the right captain is the single biggest decision you make in SPL Fantasy Football — getting it right when your rivals get it wrong can move you hundreds of thousands of places in the rankings.
The most captained player in SPL Fantasy is usually the safest pick — but also the one that moves you the least. If 40% of managers captain the same player and he scores big, you've protected your rank. If he blanks, you've also protected your rank (everyone suffers equally).
Captaining a differential — a player only 10% of managers pick as captain — is high risk, high reward. If he scores big, you gain huge rank. If he blanks, you lose big. SPL Fantasy Hub shows exactly what the top 1,000 and top 10,000 managers are captaining, helping you understand whether the smartest managers are following the popular choice or going contrarian.
SPL Fantasy Hub shows a breakdown of captain choices by rank tier:
When top managers heavily favour a player that the overall field is ignoring, that's a strong signal — the best players in the game are seeing something others aren't.
A differential is a player with low EO% — typically under 20% — who has strong potential to score big. Picking a differential correctly when your rivals don't have him is the fastest way to climb the overall SPL Fantasy rankings.
With 157,000+ managers in Saudi Pro League Fantasy Football, small gameweek score differences can mean massive rank swings. A gameweek score of just 10 points above average can move you up 20,000+ places. A score 10 points below average can drop you just as far.
SPL Fantasy Hub estimates your live rank during the gameweek using:
Your base rank determines how sensitive you are to EO differentials. A manager ranked 50,000 overall gains or loses more rank per EO point than someone ranked 150,000, because there are more managers closely ranked around them.
SPL Fantasy chips (Wildcard, Free Hit, Double Captain) are powerful tools for rank gains. SPL Fantasy Hub shows chip usage across all managers each gameweek, helping you understand when to play your chips for maximum impact. Playing a chip when others aren't can amplify your rank gains — playing it when everyone else does reduces the advantage.

Own% (Ownership %) is simply the percentage of managers who have a player in their squad. EO% (Effective Ownership %) adds the captain percentage on top — because a captained player scores double points, he has double the rank impact for managers who captain him. EO is the more accurate measure of a player's rank impact.
Triple Captain is a chip in the original Fantasy Premier League that makes your captain score triple points. SPL Fantasy uses a Double Captain chip instead — your captain still scores double, but the chip allows this to be applied in specific situations. SPL Fantasy Hub reflects SPL's actual chip rules.
